The Undiscovered Charm of the East Coast – 4 Reasons to stay on the Atlantic Coast of Barbados

The striking landscape of the East Coast of Barbados is replete with astonishing views including beautiful, jagged cliffs jutting fearlessly into the roaring Atlantic, languid casuarina trees and dramatic sights like the Sleeping Giant and Mount Hillaby. On the Atlantic coast, wild and untamed nature puts on its most daring display.

The Sunrise

Much ado has been made of the impeccable sunsets on the platinum West Coast, but of equal beauty are the sunrises on the unspoilt East Coast of Barbados. The fresh air and the warming glow of the early morning sun are simply magical. There is nothing like a walk along the sea cliffs early in the day to clear the mind and rejuvenate the senses. However, it is better experienced than explained, so make your next trip East Coast side and wake up early to take in this experience for yourself.

Natural Sights

The Sleeping Giant is an undulating hill formation in Saint Andrew which resembles a sleeping man lying on his back. If you look closely, you can see his head, a rising stomach and his bent knees in a series of rolling peaks. A great vantage point of the Sleeping Giant is the Walker’s Reserve in St. Andrew, located on a site which was originally a sand quarry but is being converted into a reserve with future plans to add hiking trails and camping once completed.

Mount Hillaby is another natural sight on the East Coast and is a jaw-dropping large hill that suddenly rises out of the mostly flat terrain of Barbados. Visually-arresting, it makes the perfect backdrop for every photo.

For arguably the best view of the East Coast, you must head to Cherry Tree Hill as this vantage point allows you to see right down the hills to the beach at beautiful Bathsheba from on high. The best part of this journey? After taking in the incredible East coast views, it’s only a hop and a skip to St. Nicholas Abbey, one of the last Jacobean mansions in the Western Hemisphere, which boasts fascinating tours and a recently added historic train attraction.

A True Escape

The East Coast is ideal for anyone who desires a true escape, perfect for the traveler who wants a degree of comfort and luxury without the excessive grandiosity. The Beach Houses by The Crane are perfect for those seeking simplicity and understated elegance, with a high level of uncompromising quality and service.

Peace

Have you ever taken a vacation in such a bustling area that by the time you returned you needed a vacation from your vacation? You won’t have that problem here. The east coast of Barbados is a true getaway, where life appears to move at a snail’s pace – the people walk slower, the cars move at a leisurely speed and you too are forced to slow down, relax and reclaim your peace.
