Getting to Barbados: An Airline Round-Up

Can you hear that? Listen closely because that’s the sound of Barbados’ white sand beaches and friendly people calling. Answering the call has never been easier with the island set to realise a seven percent increase in airlift during this winter season, having successfully negotiated several inaugural flights. Here are the highlights:

JetBlue

This New York City-based carrier has been serving Barbados since 2009 having launched with flights out of New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. On November 7th, 2015 the island welcomed two new JetBlue flights – a new Boston service and its new Mint service out of New York. Initially intended only as a seasonal offering, the premium Mint service has now been expanded to year-round, due to its overwhelming reception. The carrier has also announced plans for a daily non-stop service from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport starting in April 2016.

Thomas Cook

On November 8th, Thomas Cook Airlines commenced a new weekly service to Barbados from Glasgow, Scotland. With flights operating every Sunday, this new service is expected to prove extremely popular with leisure passengers travelling from Scotland’s largest city.

Air Canada rouge

Air Canada’s leisure airline, Air Canada rouge is set to return to Barbados on January 7th, 2016 offering its stylishly affordable service to Canadian sun seekers.

Avianca

Colombia-based Avianca introduced a twice weekly non-stop flight between Bogotá and Barbados on December 2nd. There will be two flights per week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays between El Dorado International Airport and the island’s Grantley Adams International Airport. The new Avianca service now enables connections between Barbados and Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Panama City, Mexico, Lima, San Salvador, Guayaquil, and Quito via Bogotá, with connection times of 2.5 hours or less.
